Penfolds Max’s Shiraz Cabernet is a tribute to former Chief Winemaker Max Schubert 1948-1975, a legend in Penfolds history. Max’s constant pursuit of excellence paved the way for those who followed in his footsteps and also allowed the status and heritage of Penfolds Winery to grow.

Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz

Vivid deep plum-red. Mulberry, loganberry, blackberry fruits leap forward, front and centre. A zabaglione al caffé creamy/caffeinated lift. Multiple swirls of the glass later – demi-glace and dried herb notes reluctantly teased out. Omnipresent – cedar-mahogany French polish …from oak.

Penfolds Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mataro

Dark crimson red. Multi-faceted, enchanting. A gentle swirl reveals a complex aromatic exhibit of sweet, scented fruits and warm, savoury notes. Antipasto platter, each morsel competing for attention. Charcuterie meats: Spanish chorizo, soppressata, mortadella. Fresh pomegranate, sliced ripe persimmons and semi-dried red currants.

RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz presents an admirable alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are hallmarks of Grange, expressing instead, single region Barossa Valley shiraz matured only in French oak. The initials RWT stand for ‘Red Winemaking Trial’, the name given to the project internally when developmental work began in 1995.

Penfolds Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon

Crimson red. Compelling, attention grabbing. Varietally correct, all the T’s crossed and I’s dotted. There is a lot to decipher here. First, heady aromatics of violets, blackberry and mulberries. Cherry clafoutis, blood plums, brioche.

Penfolds Bin 2 Shiraz Mataro

Saturated red core with a crimson rim. A first-impressional glimpse of red-fruited high notes – propelling mulberry, damson plums and boysenberry. Following, scents of pastrami (lightly coated in cardamon, rosemary?) and moist slices of silverside sans mustard.

St Henri is a time-honoured and alternative expression of shiraz, and an intriguing counterpoint to Grange. It is unusual amongst high quality Australian red wines as it does not rely on any new oak.

The Superblend B varietal composition is close to evenly split with cabernet sauvignon contributing 55% and shiraz 45% of the blend respectively. The components were married post vintage, completing 19 months maturation in 54% new and 46% one-year old French oak hogsheads.

This wine will reward careful cellaring for several decades.

One Superblend. Two Interpretations. Superblend 802.A and Superblend 802.B represent two unique interpretations of the iconic Australian blend of cabernet sauvignon and shiraz, sourced from unique parcels destined for Penfolds flagships

The Superblend 802.A components were aged separately in new American oak hogsheads for 22 months prior to being blended.
